ဒီဆုကို ၂၀၁၁ ခုႏွစ္ကစလို ့ႏွစ္စဥ္ခ်ီးျမွင့္ေနၿပီး၊ ၾသစေတးလ် နုိင္ငံတကာဖြံ ့ၿဖိဳးမႈေအဂ်င္စီ AusAID က ပံ့ပိုးကူညီေနပါတယ္။ အခု ၂၀၁၄ ခုႏွစ္အတြက္ ဆုေတြမွာေတာ့ ျမန္မာနိုင္ငံက အမ်ိဳးသမီးေတြနဲ႔အတူ ဖိလစ္ပိုင္၊ အာဖဂန္နစၥတန္၊ အင္ဒိုနီးရွား၊ နီေပါနဲ ့ပါကစၥတန္နိုင္ငံတို႔က အမ်ိဳးသမီး ၁ ဦးစီ၊ အာဖဂန္နစၥတန္နဲ ့ ပါကစၥတန္က အမ်ိဳးသား ၁ ဦးစီရရွိေၾကာင္း ေၾကညာထားပါတယ္။
အခုၾသဂုတ္လနဲ ့စက္တင္ဘာလမွာ ဆုရသူေတြကို မွတ္တမ္းရုပ္ရွင္တိုေတြ ရိုက္ကူးထုတ္လုပ္မွာျဖစ္ ၿပီး ေအာက္တိုဘာလမွာေတာ့ ဆုခ်ီးျမွင့္ပြဲက်င္းမယ္လုိ ့ ဆုေရြးခ်ယ္ေရးအဖြဲ႔ရဲ႕ အင္တာနက္စာမ်က္ႏွာ မွာ ေဖၚျပထားပါတယ္။

From political prisoner to peace and anti-discrimination activist
Wai Wai Nu is a former political prisoner. At the age of 18 she was arrested and sentenced to 17 years in prison, together with her mother, sister and brother, for supporting and promoting the idea of a democratic Myanmar. Her father was sentenced to a much longer term. In 2012, after seven years in prison, she was released under a presidential amnesty for political prisoners. Since being freed she has dedicated herself to promoting human rights and democracy in Myanmar.
A Rohingya from Arakhan (Rakhine) State, Wai Wai Nu was deeply moved by the the escalation of violence that she encountered upon her release from prison. Therefore, Wai Wai decided to form the Women’s Peace Network, Arakhan as a platform to build peace and mutual understanding between Myanmar’s different ethnicities, and advocate for the rights of marginalized women in Arakhan. Through the Women’s Peace Network Wai has campaigned in Myanmar and around the world for women’s rights, an end to impunity, and an end to the persecution and marginalization of her people, the Rohingya. She has conducted women’s empowerment trainings, offered legal education seminars, and organized human rights and peacebuilding activities. Wai Wai recently completed her law degree and founded Justice for Women, which operates as a network of women lawyers providing legal aid for the women of Myanmar.

Building a voice for Mon women
Mi Khin Khin Kyu (or Mi Kun Chan Non, as she is often called) is an ethnic Mon who for over a decade has been leading by example in a relentless struggle for women’s advancement in Myanmar society. Her engagement and commitment to women’s empowerment cannot be understated. Mi Kun holds several key positions of influential importance. She is the Vice Chair and Director of the Mon Women’s Organization, an advisor to the Mon National Education Committee, Chairperson of Mon University Student Welfare Association, and an Advisor to the Mon Community Based Organizations Network.
The Mon people were one of the first to settle in Myanmar, but today are part of an ethnic minority group that continue to be under-represented in most state institutions. Recognizing the marginalization of the Mon people in Myanmar and the double burden and exclusion of Mon women, Mi Kun works across all levels to highlight and ensure the importance of involving women in decision-making processes. She has coordinated and facilitated leadership training programmes, seminars and grassroots workshops for marginalized women in impoverished communities. By providing women with the skills and confidence to lead, Mi Kun believes that women will begin to challenge traditions and customs that exclude them, and demand opportunities to fully participate in their communities. There is good reason for Mi Kun’s words to hold true as she is one of the few women in the world who have been involved in a peace settlement process. Mi Kun served as an observer for the ceasefire talks between the Myanmar Government and the New Mon State Party in April 2012.
Mi Kun’s wide-ranging experience and her knowledge of equality issues and empowerment mechanisms are an inspiration to many during Myanmar’s ongoing peace efforts.
